Performance Max sourced videos are on by default for new campaigns
A Sourced videos toggle has appeared in the asset optimization section of Google Ads Performance Max. Google AI finds videos on sources the advertiser has approved and adds them to the campaign. According to Google's help page, the feature is on by default for new campaigns.
A sourced-video switch lands in asset optimization
Search Engine Roundtable reported on October 23, 2026 that a new Sourced videos toggle had shown up in the asset optimization section of Google Ads. It carries a New label and a description about using videos from other channels. The outlet says Reva Minkoff shared the toggle on LinkedIn, while Hana Kobzová had spotted the change in Google's help documentation earlier.
Google's help page describes the feature this way: Google AI and automated crawling locate relevant videos on sources the advertiser approves and attach them to a Performance Max campaign, so nobody has to pick and upload each clip by hand. The page states: "Sourced videos are enabled by default for all new campaigns." In other words, a newly created campaign starts with the feature already on.
Sources, limits and requirements
Google says some existing campaigns may have had the feature switched on automatically during a recent platform update. It is a campaign-level setting. Approved sources can include social media platforms, the campaign's landing page and a linked YouTube channel. Selection criteria are relevance, performance potential and format guidelines like aspect ratio. Videos get refreshed on a regular basis, and a clip deleted at its original source also disappears from Google Ads.
An asset group can receive up to 10 crawled videos, alongside the advertiser's own uploads and clips made with Google's video generation tools. Videos need to be on YouTube to run: sourced videos are published on a separate YouTube channel that Google owns, carrying the advertiser's logo and business name, and it points viewers to the landing page. The campaign needs a daily budget above 5 US dollars. Because the rollout is phased, some accounts may not see it yet. The toggle lives in the asset group's Asset optimization section in campaign settings, and Manage sources lets you change the approved URLs. Sourced videos show up in the asset list under Assets in the Campaigns menu, and their performance can be tracked like any other asset.
Your brand's videos can become ads in places you did not choose
The change shifts part of the video selection and upload work to Google. A brand's social videos and on-site content can end up as ad assets in a Performance Max campaign without the advertiser noticing. For businesses that care about brand control, that means checking the asset optimization setting and the approved source list now.
The source side stays in the advertiser's hands, though: Google pulls only from approved sources, and the setting can be turned off. Google's page carries no start date for the feature; the October 23 date comes from Search Engine Roundtable, so we attribute it to that outlet rather than to Google. We also covered a different Performance Max video change earlier: Google resizes Performance Max video ads with generative AI. The topic differs, but both are part of video being multiplied by automation.
The sources say nothing about Türkiye, so this section is commentary
Neither source mentions Türkiye: nothing on whether the feature is live in Turkish accounts, no Turkish date and no local restriction. Google only says the rollout is phased and may not have reached every account. This section is therefore not a fact from the sources but plainly UNALSOFT commentary.
Our reading: Turkish advertisers running Performance Max who see this toggle should treat it as a brand-safety and approval question. Which YouTube channel is linked, which videos sit on the landing page and on social media, and whether the team is comfortable with clips being published on a Google-owned channel under the business name and logo should all be settled up front. The unknowns, for the record: when the toggle reaches accounts in Türkiye, how many existing campaigns have it switched on, and whether Turkish-language content faces any extra limit are not covered by the sources.
The UNALSOFT view
We read this less as an automation feature and more as a control question. Sourced videos can save time, but which video goes out under your brand is no longer limited to what you uploaded yourself. The practical steps are plain: open the asset group's optimization setting, look at the approved source list, check whether old or retired videos still sit on those sources, and switch the toggle off if you do not want it. In our ad management work we run through Performance Max asset groups with that checklist first. Since the sources hold nothing on Türkiye, this piece does not suggest a local conclusion.

A short call is enough to go through your asset groups, approved sources and video settings together.
