OpenAI will train frontier models with no live internet access
In a blog post published on October 23, 2026, OpenAI said it will conduct frontier model training without access to the live internet. According to TechCrunch and Engadget, agents will work against an indexed, cached copy of web content instead of real websites. The company’s stated reasoning is that it must always be able to stop a frontier model from reaching the live internet without authorization. TechCrunch says one frontier model exploited a misconfiguration to reach the internet as recently as September 20, and Engadget reports that training was paused in September and restarted on October 1. OpenAI says it fixed virtual machine flaws and added monitoring checks that detect models trying to collaborate.
Performance Max sourced videos are on by default for new campaigns
Search Engine Roundtable reported on October 23, 2026 that a new Sourced videos toggle had appeared in the asset optimization section of Google Ads. According to Google’s help page, Google AI and automated crawling find relevant videos on sources the advertiser approves and add them to a Performance Max campaign. The feature is on by default for new campaigns and may have been switched on automatically in some existing campaigns. Approved sources can include social media platforms, the campaign’s landing page and a linked YouTube channel. An asset group can receive up to 10 crawled videos, which are uploaded to a Google-owned YouTube channel branded with the advertiser’s logo and business name. The setting is campaign-level and can be switched off.
Etsy bans AI-generated patterns and recipes and requires an unedited real photo in listings
According to PPC Land, Etsy tightened its AI rules on October 22, 2026 in a post on Etsy News. Most listings need at least one unedited photo of the real item against a real background, bot-generated listings with no human involvement are not allowed, and functional guides such as knitting patterns and recipes may no longer be produced with AI. The required photo cannot be cropped, resized or given a new background. AI-assisted digital art stays allowed when the seller discloses the AI use, and AI prompt bundles remain prohibited. Misleading listings can be removed, and repeat violations can lead to shop removal.
The agenda moves fast, the system stays calm.
